Hair loss is a debilitating, yet all-too-common issue, affecting millions of men and women across the world. Also known as Alopecia Areata, hair loss has a number of different causes – genetics is by far the most common. And At Goals Plastic Surgery, we offer a revolutionary new method of hair restoration using the newest in cosmetic PRP therapy.
What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy?
PRP or platelet rich plasma, Therapy is a groundbreaking treatment in health and wellness care – helping millions of men and women, with a wide variety of different injuries and issues.
PRP refers to a substance that promotes natural healing and cellular rejuvenation when injected into a specific treatment area. PRP is made from plasma, a component of your own blood that contains important, healing compounds known as ‘growth factors’ or proteins that help induce clotting of the blood, tissue regeneration, and cell division or cellular growth.
PRP has become of the most coveted and breakthrough procedures to enter the medical field in recent years. Used by everyone for a vast assortment of issues, from professional athletes like Kobe Bryant looking to recover from knee chronic issues, and celebrities like Kim Kardashian looking to stimulate the production of collagen, to your run-of-the-mill housewife looking to reduce the presence of those nasty wrinkles!
How Does it Work?
After seeing success in a number of different fields and medical applications, many physicians believed platelet rich plasma could be the answer to hair loss issues – and they were right! Countless studies, and recent research has shown PRP Hair Restoration to be one of the most effective treatments for androgenic alopecia or Male Pattern
Baldness/Female Pattern Baldness.
The PRP injections work to trigger growth of your own natural hair, using nothing else but your own plasma made from your own blood – a process that is 100% natural, and doesn’t use any harmful chemicals or dangerous compounds. Results have shown that PRP can not only trigger natural hair growth, but by increasing the blood supply to each hair follicle it is able to sustain it over time – increasing the health and thickness of each hair.
PRP Hair Restoration Process
Depending upon your specific needs, you will likely need about 3-4 sessions, approximately 4-6 weeks apart – with follow-up maintenance treatments done every 4-6 months after.
Using a sample of your own blood, we formulate an injectable PRP compound for a number of treatments, in this instance, hair restoration. Once the blood is drawn, depending upon the size of the treatment area it can be varying amounts, it is placed within a centrifuge – a machine that spins liquid compound samples. It is then spun around at a high speed, in order to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the other components of the blood.
The compounds will generally separate within 15 minutes or so into 3 separate compounds:
- Red Blood Cells
- Platelet-Poor Plasma
- Platelet-Rich Plasma
Once the plasma is separated, it is then prepped from injection into the desired treatment area, or ‘bald spots’ along the scalp. While injection into the scalp is fairly straightforward, physicians may use ultrasound or other imaging devices to properly inject the PRP substance into other areas. The entire process, from start to finish will generally take under an hour to complete.
Patients should start to see results within a few weeks. The platelet-rich plasma and its naturally-restorative nature, help restore the health of the hair follicles – causing new hair strands to grow back thicker, and stronger than they previously ever were.
Results have even shown that PRP injections are able to stimulate the growth of follicles that were previously thought to be dead or dormant, as the influx of blood circulation, stem cell growth factors, and proteins essentially bring the follicle “back to life”.
