What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition, where the breast tissue, in men, becomes over-developed or enlarged – occuring at any point in a man’s life.
Gynecomastia is often the result of hormonal changes, heredity, obesity or the use of certain drugs. It affects men both physically and emotional, having a devastating effect on a man’s self-confidence and leading to life-long insecurities. Men suffering from gynecomastia feel emasculated, generally avoiding physical activity and intimacy all-together.
At Goals Plastic Surgery, gynecomastia surgery can help to remove excess, unwanted skin and fatty tissue that has developed around the breast tissue. This excess tissue is cut and helps to create the ideal masculine chest contours.
Are You a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?
Breast reduction surgery is done by removing excess breast fat, and tissue, creating a masculine, symmetrical chest. The ideal candidate for male breast reduction includes:
- Men whose condition cannot be treated fully through hormone replacement.
- Men with overgrowth of breast tissue, excess fat and excess skin.
- Men looking for a masculine, aesthetically pleasing chest.
- Men whose large breasts cause low self-esteem and mental anguish.
The most popular and least conspicuous method extends around the areola in the pigmented area where it will be far less noticeable. Through the incisions, our surgeons are able to remove the excess tissue and skin to sculpt a flatter, more masculine chest contour.
If there is an excess of fat stores in the breast area, then liposuction may be used as well. Tiny incisions are made, and the liposuction tube is inserted into the breast, removing fat cells. These small incisions leave minimal scarring and won’t be visible after healing.
Recovery & Aftercare
Men can usually return home immediately following the procedure, wearing a compression garment to cover the chest and reduce swelling. Oral pain medication may be prescribed to alleviate any post-operative discomfort. Generally, men can return to daily activity within a week or two following the procedure, although any strenuous physical activity should be avoided for up to 4-6 weeks into recovery.
Results can be seen almost immediately, and your chest will continue to improve and take on its new shape as they weeks go by. Results are typically permanent, as long as you keep a healthy weight, and maintain a healthy level of exercise. Your new masculine chest will give you the aesthetically pleasing symmetry you’ve always wanted. Alleviating your insecurities and giving way to the new, confident, you.
