Step by Step Guide to the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL)
In recent years the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has become one of the most popular aesthetic enhancement procedures around. Each year more and more women (and even some men!) are choosing to undergo the popular fat transfer procedure. And to meet the vastly increased demand, surgeons all over NYC are claiming to be experts in the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), but few have been able to achieve the results of Dr. Sergey Voskin, better known as Dr. V from Goals Plastic Surgery, the top plastic surgery NYC has to offer. Take one look at the Goals Instagram page and the before and after images, and you can see how few can rival their results. Dr. V’s unique vision allows him to create amazing contours and fabricate breathtaking curves for even the slimmest of patients. However, despite the popularity of the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), few prospective patients truly know what the procedure entails. To help alleviate the confusion, and educate patients on what they can truly expect, here is a step by step guide to the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) at Goals.
Step 1: Planning Phase
The process will generally begin with your consultation with Dr. V and the team at Goals Plastic Surgery. The area of the buttocks in which the fat will be transferred, to and from, is marked and outlined. This will tell your surgeon where exactly where any and all incisions will be made, generally these incision sites are small – around 2-3 millimeters in length.
Step 2: Anesthesia and Prep
Considering that the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is an invasive fat transfer procedure, anesthesia is necessary. Depending upon the level of correction needed, as well as personal preference we will use either general or local anesthesia. Once anesthesia is administered, we will prep the area in which the fat will be harvested from, as well as the injection site. Both areas are carefully cleansed and washed with antibacterial soap. This ensures that no infections will occur during the procedure.
Step 3: First Incisions and Fluid Injection
Now is where the main part of the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) takes place. First, incisions are made at both the harvest area as well as the buttocks. Over the years Dr. V has perfected his placement of these incisions to be as inconspicuous as possible and ensure that the results of the fat transfer come out natural in appearance. The incision made at the harvest site will be the one where liposuction will occur, and the cannula will pull the fat from. The incisions made along the buttocks and the buttock crease are where the fat will be injected into.
At the harvest site, tumescent fluid must be injected into the fat in order for it to be removed properly. This fluid is composed of lidocaine and epinephrine, diluted into one liter of saline solution. The lidocaine is used to numb the area and the epinephrine narrows the blood vessels in order to limit the bruising and bleeding. This step is sometimes skipped, but this is dependent upon your specific Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure.
Step 4: Harvesting the Fat
Through the process of liposuction, fat will be removed from one or more areas of the body. The most common areas are usually the abdomen or the flanks (side love handles). Sometimes slimmer patients will be asked to gain weight for this to happen. The fat is collected into a container or cannister in order to prevent infections spreading. Then the fat is transferred to large size syringes and prepped for injection. The fat is left to settle and separate from the fluid, which is then discarded. The separated fat is then transferred into another syringe designed for the injection process. This smaller syringe is extremely precise and allows your surgeon to choose a specific area to inject the fat.
Step 5: Injection and Closure
The fat is then injected into the buttock area. Through his years of experiencing performing countless Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures, Dr. V knows precisely where to inject the fat to create a certain look as well as certain contours. Once this is done, the incisions are sutured closed.
After some time for recovery, there are a number of after-care protocols the team at Goals will recommend. These include things like specialty garments, and post-procedure massages to allow the fat to settle and for the best results possible.
