Most people think of Acne as something that affects teens and preteens, which isn’t really the case. Acne can affect us all, no matter your age, race or gender. Acne issues are the most common skincare problems that face people in the United States.
Why treat your acne?
Although acne is quite common many experts will tell you to let acne run its course, and allow it to heal on its own. However, at Goals Aesthetics, our goal is to get our clients to look and feel better, providing fast, efficient, high-quality results.
Without proper treatment, acne can heal in very poor ways. Often times when acne disappears it leaves behind dark spots, and/or permanent scarring. And these acne scars can be very difficult to remove and can require costly, high-end laser treatments or expensive skin resurfacing facials & peels. The best way to avoid dark spots and acne scarring is to treat your acne today!
Not only does acne treatment have you looking better, but acne treatment will let you feel better and give you the self-esteem you may have been lacking dealing with acne blemishes for such a long time. At Goals Aesthetics, we offer a number of different acne treatment options that will leave you with brighter, clear skin, devoid of any unsightly acne bumps or blemishes.
Causes of Acne
Acne is caused by clogged pores more than anything. The outer layer of our skin is full of dead, dull skin cells. Normally these dead skin cells rise to the top of the skin’s surface, and are shed by the body. However, in those that are prone to acne, the body creates a compound known as sebum. Sebum is a naturally occurring oil that keeps our skin from drying out, however, in this instance the overproduction of sebum causes it to coat the skin’s surface and causes harmful things like dirt, bacteria, dead skin cells and other debris to get stuck to the skin’s surface. As this harmful debris covers the skin’s surface, they begin to clog the pores and cause the dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria to clog the pores, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to multiple. Once these bacteria multiply, the pores become red and inflamed, the inflammation goes deep into the skin and causes acne bumps, cysts, or nodules.
Treatment Options
Depending on the level of acne correction required we will recommend different treatment methods. Generally, we prefer to use chemical peels and deep cleansing facials, or some conjunction of the two. However for those patients with far more severe acne we recommend slightly more invasive forms of treatment.
- Laser Treatments
We offer a number of acne treatment lasers. They work on the principle of laser skin resurfacing; clearing away dull, dead skin cells and forming new, fresh skin cells to take their place. With this process, we are able to use laser energy to penetrate below the skin’s surface, and stimulate the production of vital compounds such as collagen and elastin.
With the addition of collagen and elastin, the skin undergoes a complete transformation, removing, acne, scarring, rosacea and other blemishes. Our most popular laser options include:
- The CoolTouch Laser
-
The VBeam Laser
- Photodynamic Therapy
PDT is medical treatment that utilizes a photosensitizing molecule (frequently a drug that becomes activated by light exposure) and a light source to activate the administered drug. Genrally used for skin cancer patients, it has a lot of success with acne and facial treatments. We administer a special molecule which becomes activated by our PDT light source. Once this molecule is active, after a short incubation period (can be minutes or days in some cases), it causes the target tissue to be destroyed, essentially removing any acne, hyperpigmentation, moles, or other blemishes in its path!
- Chemical Peels & Medical Topical Creams
As mentioned previously, for most acne we prefer to use the least invasive measures, Chemical Peels & Topical Creams. Similar to any other chemical peel application, we cleanse the skin and apply the formula. Strength is generally based on the severity of your acne. Many of our facials and peels also use a combination of salicylic acid and glycolic acid. These acids main purpose is the treatment of acne by cleansing the skin, resurfacing acne bumps & blemishes, and penetrating deep into the skin to kill harmful bacteria and other irritants that can cause acne.
